Professor Stephen Wood is joining Swinburne University to lead the world-renowned Centre for Mental Health and Brain Sciences.
Professor Stephen Wood was previously Deputy Chief of Research and also led the Clinical Neuroscience research area at Orygen, a research and knowledge translation organisation focusing on mental ill-health in young people. He holds honorary positions at the School of Psychological Sciences, University of Melbourne and the School of Psychology, University of Birmingham (UK).
Stephen previously held leadership roles at the University of Melbourne where he was Professor of Clinical Translational Neuroscience, with a joint appointment at the University of Birmingham (UK) as Professor of Adolescent Development and Mental Health.
Background and Research
Stephen's research is focused on identifying neurobiological markers of mental illness, from predictors of poor outcome to markers of treatment response. He is also interested in understanding the way in which normal brain development can affect and be affected by the development of mental illnesses.
Stephen is currently on the executive committee for the Society for Mental Health Research, and has been a vice president of IEPA Early Intervention in Mental Health and a past recipient of the Australasian Society for Psychiatric Research's Schering-Plough Organon Prize.
