Professor Bryony James has been appointed Vice-Chancellor at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

Academic Leadership

Professor James has held a number of academic leadership positions in the New Zealand university system, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Waikato and Deputy Dean (Research) and Associate Dean (Research) at the University of Auckland's Faculty of Engineering. She was most recently Provost at Victoria University of Wellington.

Background and Research

Bryony obtained her PhD in Materials Engineering from the University of Auckland and her Bachelor of Engineering with Honours from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. 

She is an accomplished and multi-disciplinary researcher who has provided research and academic leadership over her university career. Her own field of study is materials science and engineering, with an emphasis on food materials and the ways in which their microstructure affects their functional characteristics.
