Dr Paula Vivili has been appointed as Director-General of The Pacific Community.

About The Pacific Community

The Pacific Community (SPC) is the primary scientific and technical institution facilitating development throughout the Pacific region. SPC applies science, knowledge and innovation to support the people of the Pacific in their objectives and aspirations for the region's challenges, such as climate action, sustainable development and livelihoods, natural resources and biodiversity, equity, food systems, economies, education and social development. Established in 1947, SPC is an international development organisation owned and governed by its 27 country and territory members.

Background and Leadership

Dr Vivili previously served as SPC’s Deputy Director General Science and Capability and Director of the Public Health Division. Prior to joining SPC Paula worked for the Ministry of Health in Tonga for close to two decades. He holds undergraduate degrees in Human Nutrition (University of Otago) and Medicine (University of the South Pacific) as well as a master’s degree in international public health (University of Sydney). Additionally, he has undertaken a World Health Organisation fellowship at the University of Auckland and Auckland Hospital in Ophthalmology.
