Dr Matthew Wallen has been appointed Associate Professor and Head of Discipline, Clinical Exercise Physiology at Bond University.

Academic Leadership

Dr Wallen joins Bond University from Flinders University where he was a Senior Lecturer in Exercise Science and Clinical Exercise Physiology, a Senior Research Fellow in Cancer Survivorship, and Academic Lead for Flinders University's Exercise and Sport Science and Clinical Exercise Physiology departments. 

Background and Research

Dr. Wallen holds a PhD in Clinical Exercise Physiology and has significant experience in healthcare and medical research. He has spearheaded and participated in multiple clinical trials examining exercise as a crucial component of cancer treatment, assisting in the application of research findings in various healthcare contexts. His work focuses on how exercise can enhance physical function, treatment tolerance, and long-term survivability results before, during, and after cancer treatment. 

Matthew is a member of the Exercise and Sport Science Australia's (ESSA) Research Committee, Transplant Australia's Expert Advisory Panel and Cancer Australia's Expert Cancer Control Panel.
