Professor Luke Bennetts has been appointed Professor of Applied Mathematics, in the Faculty of Science at The University of Melbourne.

Academic and Professional Leadership

Professor Luke Bennetts joined The University of Melbourne in April 2025 as Professor of Applied Mathematics in Faculty of Science. He was previously at the University of Adelaide from 2011 and where he held several leadership roles including as Associate Head - Research in the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences.  

Background and Research

Luke was previously an Australian Research Council DECRA fellow (2013–2016) and Future Fellow (2020–2024). His research focusses on mathematical modelling, problem-solving and data analysis involving grand scientific challenges related to climate change and the environment. He has internationally recognised expertise in Antarctic and Southern Ocean science.
